THere is only one Sploote, son of a structural engineer, airlifted from war torn Nigeria as a baby, and almost 7 feet tall, found himself in the wild north of england as a teenager trying unsuccessfully to explain particle physics, Hawkwind, Gong and The Pink Fairies to farmers kids at school. He absconded to the nearest art college to derange his senses, design cheese shaped furniture and immerse himself in cider, velvet jackets and The Velvet Underground. He bought a van, and he and Mickey made a demo tape at a tiny studio inthe mountains, packed the van with amps and guitars, most of which were theirs, and headed south.. after a couple highly experimental incarnations in Manchester they became Scorpio Rising. Sploote still plays “Darwin” the red Gibson 335 bought with their first record company advance.

After Scorpio split in 1994 Sploote went on to tour Europe and USA and record with Ian McCullogh and Will Sargeant's Electrafixion. Then joining Shireen as guitarist in The Slingbacks. In 2009 Sploote and Mickey were reunited briefly for sonic therapy in the instrumental surfcore power trio Jimmy & The Destroyers. Splootes musical inspiration comes from everywhere, he can do it all: Fogherty, Hendrix, Peter Green, Wayne Kramer, Sterling Morrison, Tony Iommi, Canned Heat, Flaming Lips, Camper Van Beethoven, Lightning Hopkins, Bill Steer, Kevin Shields.. he's ours .. and you cant have him..
